As the company transitions underwriting fully in-house, this hire will serve as the first dedicated underwriter and will play a key role in building and scaling the underwriter function, including hiring and training additional team members. The founder is energetic, and direct in communication style.
Role Overview
This is a hands-on underwriting role responsible for underwriting all non-delegated DSCR and business-purpose loans while establishing processes, managing pipeline flow and supporting operational growth. The Ideal candidate thrives in a build-out environment, enjoys both credit decisioning and team development and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite DSCR rental and business-purpose loans to internal and investor guidelines
- Analyze credit, liquidity, borrower experience, and rental cash flow
- Review appraisals, title, insurance, and entity documentation
- Prepare credit memos and recommend loan structure and conditions
- Manage pipelines from submission to approval; maintain turn times
- Partner with sales, processing, closing, and capital markets
- Ensure compliance and support QC initiatives
- Assist in hiring and training underwriting staff
Qualifications
- Recent DSCR, Non-QM, or business-purpose underwriting experience
- Strong rental cash-flow and DSCR analysis skills
- Experience with SFR, 2–4 units, small multifamily (bridge/RTL a plus)
- Ability to manage volume in a fast-paced environment
- Encompass or similar LOS experience preferred
- Leadership or mentoring experience a plus
