The Underwriter – Express Channel plays a critical role in evaluating and underwriting fix & flip, bridge, and construction loans, with a strong emphasis on asset-level risk assessment and borrower-level credit analysis.

This role is ideal for candidates with deep experience in deal-level underwriting fundamentals, credit analysis, and real estate project evaluation. Success in this position requires the ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment while balancing speed, accuracy, and risk mitigation. The Underwriter will also collaborate closely with Sales, Valuations, Construction, and Operations teams to ensure successful deal execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate borrower credit history and financials to identify potential risks.
  • Analyze renovation budgets and verify alignment with market comps and borrower exit strategies.
  • Validate borrower experience and track record with investment real estate assets.
  • Confirm loan eligibility against company program guidelines and risk thresholds.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Valuations, Construction, and Operations to collect and verify due diligence documentation.
  • Underwrite rental, fix & flip, bridge, and construction loans, including assessment of collateral, project scope, exit strategy, and market dynamics.
  • Provide feedback to Sales regarding loan structure, eligibility, and deal flow optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with Genesis Capital’s credit policy, asset-level guidelines, and investor requirements.
  • Participate in pipeline meetings and provide underwriting insight to expedite approvals.
  • Review and validate title documents, including estoppels, title reports, and indemnities.
  • Manage a pipeline of loans in accordance with company SOPs and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Accurately input underwriting data into the loan origination system (LOS) and other platforms.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum 5+ years in commercial real estate banking or private lending (underwriting, credit analysis, or related).
  • Direct experience in fix & flip or construction lending is required.
  • Knowledge of loan structuring, valuation methodologies, and investor exit strategies.
  • Understanding of borrower financials, credit risk, and KYC/AML compliance.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and pipeline management tools.
  • Familiarity with residential construction budgets, cost review, and timeline feasibility preferred.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in underwriting.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Effective cross-functional communication and teamwork skills.
