Role Summary
The Head of Appraisal Reviews / Senior Appraiser is responsible for overseeing the appraisal review function across the organization’s lending platform. This role serves as the subject-matter expert for residential valuation, ensuring appraisal quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance across multiple loan products. The position provides leadership over appraisal reviews while partnering closely with Credit, Underwriting, Risk, and Operations to support sound lending decisions and portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the appraisal review process for residential investment properties across multiple loan products
- Review, evaluate, and approve appraisal reports for accuracy, methodology, and compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements
- Establish and maintain appraisal review policies, procedures, and best practices
- Serve as the primary valuation authority, providing guidance on complex property types, market conditions, and valuation challenges
- Partner with Underwriting, Credit, and Risk teams to support loan decisions and mitigate valuation-related risk
- Manage relationships with appraisal management companies (AMCs) and independent appraisers
- Identify valuation trends, risks, and market dynamics impacting portfolio quality
- Ensure compliance with USPAP, investor guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Contribute to process improvements, technology enhancements, and scalability initiatives within the valuation function
Qualifications
- Certified Residential Appraiser or Certified General Appraiser required
- 7+ years of residential appraisal and/or appraisal review experience
- Prior experience leading or overseeing appraisal review functions preferred
- Strong knowledge of residential investment properties, including rental, DSCR, and construction-related valuations
- Deep understanding of USPAP, appraisal regulations, and investor requirements
- Proven ability to assess complex valuations and market data across diverse geographies
- Strong analytical, judgment, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally
